Description

this is a photocollage of something i have been working on for the past month or so, this poster design is for an exhibition. it all started in the year 1511, during that year belgium had to cope with a severe winter, you might say a mini ice age. because of the cold temperatures, a snowpuppet festival took place. the city poet of brussels wrote a poem about that.

these events took place 500 years ago and 'de rederijkerskamer' along with the VGC wanted to honor that event and arranged something similar.

12 artists or artistgroups (like us, me and my classmates)(who will exhibit all over brussels)were given a certain theme linked to the ice age and other connotations. the main theme is "a world gone mad", whitin that we worked around the word virus. (computer aswell as human)

concept: the link between a virus in the middle ages and a virus nowadays. people in the middle ages died as a result of a virus, where in our society, the scientific evolution enables us (in most cases) to take medication and thus cure the virus (whitout certain death) this can also be translated to computers, a virus infects the computer, makes it run slower but this can be fixed(again in most cases)

the poster you see here, is a representation of the human body, aswel as a computer. a virus infects the body, you feel it and suffer for a while, but medication cures it for 95% and you'll continue living.

the poster is 2,5m high and 1,5m wide. on the poster you can read a text that explains the birth and evolution of a computer virus. a bit funny even. the visitors of the exhibition (if they want) can rip of a small piece of the poster (i added pre-cut lines) and drop it beneath the poster
the people who visit the exhibition at the beginning (it lasts a month) are able to read the text in full, without any form of frustration, but as the exhibition evolves so will the poster, wholes will (hopefully) emerge and the visitors will be frustrated because of the iritating look of the poster.

thats about it i guess, ... it was very frustrating to make this, not to mention the printing proces, finding a capable printer etc, but i like the result, ...

comments and critics are very welcome as always!
